The Horae (divine whores) exist within the revelatory mythos of time. They keep the universe spinning according to sacred protocol and collective agreements. Cross culturally they are dancers and devotional priestesses of cycles, keepers of temple wisdom and embodiments of The Queen of Heaven. The medicine and ephemera of the Horae might help us to illuminate the nuances of being a modern politicized Whore. Whore being derived etymologically from this emergence of the Hours in Persian houri, Greek horae and in Hebrew, hor meaning a pit, cave or well ~ synonyms for a sacred prostitute and the Goddess they served. In the stripping of reverence, horae to whore becomes a demonization of resiliency and a socio-economic threat that is perpetually weaponized to leverage religious puritanical agendas. People have been engaging in erotic labor for thousands of years, whether for ritual purposes or for money/trade for resources. I stretch the folds of time and remember whore lineage to a be an undeniable life-giving force. A survival strategy yes but for me it’s about Love and Care too.
